Who Wins in China's Urban Housing Reform?

Housing reform in China has proceeded on two tracks: privatization of public housing and development of a new private-housing sector.

On January 20, John R. Logan, a sociology professor at Brown University and a Hong Kong University visiting research professor focusing on contemporary China studies, will lecture on the findings of his studies. He suggests that the biggest winners in China’s transition from socialist housing allocations are the same people favored in the previous system, based on factors like residence status, education, and occupation.

This event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Room 223 of the Knowles Building at HKU.
