I am absolutely thrilled that Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Burma's National League for Democracy, finally has been released by the military junta. This powerful and charismatic lady has endured endless suffering in her struggle for a democratic and free Burma. In so doing, she gained widespread respect in the international community.

In May, I traveled to Rangoon, met with leaders of the League and offered them my support. Now I salute Suu Kyi for her courage and conviction and will continue to support her pro-democracy movement.

Also I call on Hong Kong people to learn from her shining example and redouble our efforts in fighting for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland.
