Team's Centennial Profits Brighten Gridiron Outlook

Saskatchewan Roughriders chairman Roger Brandvold has announced that the gridiron team created a Cdn $650,000 legacy fund to help support amateur football in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The fund consists of profits from the team's centennial celebrations in 2010.

“The centennial legacy fund will make an incredible impact on minor football and help to broaden the reach so that more children enjoy the benefits of participating in sport,” Brandvold said.  He wants to “ensure that the centennial-celebrations legacy lasts well beyond 2010”.

Through a partnership with Sask Sport and the previously established Sport Legacy Fund, the funds will be dispersed for amateur football capital projects. A committee will form application guidelines and criteria for grant decisions.

The committee revealed that Cdn $100,000 will be allocated to Regina Minor Football to support Liebel Field refurbishment. Another $100,000 will help the Hilltops and Saskatoon Minor Football with new lights at Ron Atchison Field.
