Strong Spirit Prevails

I read about Lady the Cat (Gracious Lady Cat Leans on Admiring Friends in Final Days, November 3, 2006). It’s very interesting because with people or animals, the level of functioning and the afflictions that one has don’t always indicate the will to live or die. The spirit, feline or otherwise, goes a long way to determine how one perseveres.

Consider Angus, my 18-year-old cat. A few years ago, I thought he was on death’s door. But after some thyroid meds, he got back on track. Although thin, he’s now amazing and has great quality of life, accosting me for more food at every turn.

It’s nice to see people look after animals so well and provide them with individualized care so that they can live longer without suffering. Kudos for that!
