Forty years ago the Hang Seng Index began to track Hong Kong’s stock market. The index’s 40th anniversary falls on November 24.

On November 19, the Hong Kong University Libraries Reading Club hosts an event: “The Origin of the Hang Seng Index, And What You May Not Know About Hong Kong”. The index’s architect Stanley Kwan and his niece Nicole Kwan, co-authors of The Dragon and the Crown: Hong Kong Memoirs, will discuss the index’s origin and what it reflects about Hong Kong’s economic development. The moderator will be Christine Loh from Civic Exchange.

This English-language discussion takes place in the Main Library’s Special Collections section at the University of Hong Kong. It begins at 7:15 p.m.
