Special Tram Focuses on Aging University

A tram-car dedicated to the University of Hong Kong's centenary has started to rumble along the streets of Hong Kong Island.

The HKU-100 Tram, bearing an image of the university's iconic 100-year-old Main Building, helps to highlight the centenary theme of “knowledge, heritage and service”. Launched on August 6, it will continue until the end of November.

Pleasures of riding the tram will increase with narrated tours. Professors and students will conduct guided public tours about “Traces of Hong Kong’s Urban Development” and other special themes. Passengers can have self-guided tours using a free mobile app as the tram traverses through distinctive districts.

The “Traces of Hong Kong's Urban Development” app was designed and developed by Professor Anthony Yeh of HKU's Department of Urban Planning and Design. HKU also gratefully acknowledges support from Hong Kong Tramways Ltd.
