In Charlottetown, Canada, the police have identified and charged three snowmobile riders with willfully causing needless suffering to an animal for the recent death of a fox. The crime could result in jail sentences or fines.
Allegedly, the three men, all in their 20s, used snowmobiles to chase, surround and repeatedly run over a wild fox in a field. People living nearby found the dead animal and spoke of the incident to the media. A public uproar ensued about the act of cruelty.
Public pressure spurred the police to investigate. Government officials remind that it’s illegal to chase or harass wildlife using a motorized vehicle.
