Sharratt, Johnstone Issue Live-Show CD

Singer-songwriter Steve Sharratt and fiddler Roy Johnstone, both from Prince Edward Island, Canada, have issued a new CD titled Live at Loon. The idea of doing a live recording had been around for a while, but previously they lacked the right combination of venue, recording engineer and available time.

“I had wanted a better acoustic-fiddle sound for my live performances,” Johnstone said. “I tried a new wireless-microphone set-up... and was very pleased with the sound quality.”

Experienced sound engineer Gerry Dwyer helped enormously. “He tweaked things and gave us a great live sound, so we recorded four concerts worth of material, and Roy edited it down to a little more than an hour of the best tracks,” Sharratt said.

“We have a bit of everything there, and it represents what we do best in live performances, which is to create a conversation right then and there. We rarely repeat anything exactly, and we captured a real dynamic energy that sometimes gets lost in studios.”

Loon Mountain is a beautiful setting where Sharratt and Johnstone performed at the 35th anniversary of the New Hampshire Highland Games.
