At 8 p.m. on January 13, the Culture Club Gallery in Hong Kong will screen the classic movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It’s delicious, like a big chocolate bar, and you’re never too old to enjoy it!
Based on a Roald Dahl novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), the 1971 movie stars Gene Wilder in the title role and earned an Academy Award nomination for best original score. After seeing a new version by Tim Burton, let’s watch this first film-adaptation. It remains a joy with likable characters, exhilarating songs and valuable life-lessons.
Poor Charlie Bucket must work to support his family, but secretly dreams of winning a grand tour in a wonderful chocolate factory owned by the mysterious Willy Wonka. When a miracle occurs and Charlie enters the factory with four greedy kids, they see colorful landscapes and ingenious techniques as chocolate flows in rivers and candy bars can emerge from TV-screens. Surprises and eccentric plot-twists happen every few seconds.
