Rawlins Cross, with Prince Edward Island musician Joey Kitson, one of Canada's most beloved Celtic bands, rekindles its magic with an Atlantic Canada tour to support its eighth album, Heart Head Hands. On January 18, the band performs at the Confederation Centre in Charlottetown.
Formed in St. John's, Newfoundland, in the late 1980s, Rawlins Cross consists of Dave Panting (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals), Geoff Panting (keyboards, accordion), Ian McKinnon (highland pipes, tin whistle, bodhran), Brian Bourne (bass, Chapman stick, vocals), Howie Southwood (drums) and Joey Kitson (vocals, harmonica).
Following a seven-year hiatus, Rawlins Cross reunited in 2008 to release Anthology, a compilation of its best recorded songs. Since then, the band has performed at festivals and big events nationwide, including the Olympics and a command performance for the Queen in Halifax.
Heart Head Hands is the band's first full-length studio album in 12 years. It was produced by the Panting brothers and recorded by Charles Austin at Echo Chamber Studio in Halifax. Among its 16 original tracks are 12 songs written by the Pantings and Bourne plus four Celtic instrumental selections.
