The Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency have unveiled the “Touchdown For Dreams” campaign to raise funds to grant dreams to Saskatchewan women who have life-threatening cancer.
The Canadian Football League (CFL) has launched a “Pink Initiative” to “tackle women's cancer". On October 21-22, all CFL teams will wear pink equipment, like chin straps, gloves and wrist bands. This gear then will be auctioned on the CFL website in support of each team's chosen charity.
The Roughriders have adopted their own initiatives, including sales of pink player pennants. There's also a bandana program with two pink bandanas selling for Cdn$10. One shows the Touchdown for Dreams logo and the other is plain pink to be used to write messages of hope or in memory of someone. After an October 16 game, the Riders will hold a celebration for people to bring messaged bandanas to be tied together on a structure placed in the north end-zone for the rest of the season.
