As the Canadian Music Centre celebrates its 50th anniversary, the National Arts Centre and its orchestra partnered with the CMC for a special all-Canadian concert and birthday event last month.
In appreciation for this historic event, the CMC has recognized 50 outstanding Canadian performers and conductors who have played exceptional roles to shape the Canadian-music scene and raise its profile. These individuals gathered from across Canada for the anniversary concert at the NAC in Ottawa.
The 50 music ambassadors include Prince Edward Island pianist Jacqueline Sorensen. This Charlottetown-based musician lectures in the University of Prince Edward Island’s music department, directs music at a church and acts as a piano examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Sorensen has an independent piano studio and serves as a music-festival adjudicator. She’s also part of eklektikos, a PEI-based new-music group that has performed and commissioned works by Canadian composers and joined the CMC’s New Music in New Places projects.
The CMC houses, promotes and distributes the music of Canada’s composers. In doing so, it offers programs, products and services.
