An opening reception for a photo exhibition, The Road to 1911: A Visual History, and the simultaneous launch of a companion book, China In Revolution: 1911 and Beyond, take place starting at 5 p.m. on August 29 in the University Museum and Art Gallery at the University Hong Kong.
The exhibition features an extraordinary selection of 86 photos assembled for the first time from collections worldwide. Dating from the 1860s to the 1920s, they provide insight into the origins of modern China, illustrating social conditions and attitudes, atmosphere in the dying days of the Qing Dynasty, daily lives and events that helped to shape China's transition.
The reception and book launch are presented by HKU's Journalism and Media Studies Centre, the University Museum and Art Gallery, Commercial Press (HK) Ltd and the Beijing World Art Museum.
On September 22, The Road to 1911 exhibition starts a tour of museums in Beijing, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong, Jiangsi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Gansu and Fujian provinces.
