Hot, Flat and Crowded combines concern about irreversible climate change and a perception that the U.S. has lost its way since the 9/11 terrorism attacks in 2001. The interesting part is Friedman’s belief that the two issues are linked.
The author’s premise is that three converging forces threaten our world: global warming (hot), the rise of the middle class (flat) and population growth (crowded). These forces may create enormous demands for basic resources of every kind.
