I enjoyed Emily Ho’s story, Deadly Disease Propels People to ‘Quiet’ Isle (Memoirs of an Ice-Cream Lady, Part 31). A friend of mine living in Hong Kong at the time of the SARS outbreak reckoned the panic was worse than the disease.

It has been similar with swine flu. This year, 20 New Zealanders have died of swine flu while about 500 died from regular flu.
