Mucked Up Everywhere

International reaction to what happened in Thailand recently (Thais Embrace Forced Change, September 21, 2006) tells a lot. Think of how many highly-paid staff, consultants and experts the United States has in Thailand. These are high-rollers occupying the best penthouses and frequenting the best restaurants at taxpayers’ expense. They create a huge reservoir of on-the-spot expertise to give Washington ample advice on what really happens. Yet they still get it all wrong, despite the situation being pretty much a no-brainer.

Based on this small example, we shouldn’t be surprised when governments constantly muck up when intervening in other countries, like Iraq and Afghanistan. If you’re going to publicly interfere in another country’s affairs, at least know what the ##!@* you’re talking about! Western politicians clearly don’t.
