Mark the Days in Support of Writing

Titled The Figure in the Landscape, a calendar from the 20-year-old Prince Edward Island Writers’ Guild, is dedicated to the late Frank Ledwell, a husband, father, poet, storyteller and educator.

A Milton Acorn poem, titled “The Figure in the Landscape Made the Landscape”, provided inspiration for the calendar name. Featuring black-and-white photos of Island writers, the calendar also has monthly writing selections by the Guild members.

Respected photographer John Sylvester took the pictures at the Rock Barra Artist Retreat property managed by Teresa Doyle. Graphic-design artist Deborah Vail-Waring crafted John’s sometimes serious, sometimes playful, images into the art-calendar.

Funds from the calendars (beyond printing costs) go to Guild programs like Writers-in-the-Schools, the mentorship program and craft-development workshops. The calendar sells at UPEI’s Robertson Library, the PEI Council of the Arts, the Voluntary Resource Council and the PEIWG website (www.peiwritersguild.com).
