| Chiew-Siah Tei, the author of Little Hut of Leaping Fishes, published by Picador Asia, will tour Bangkok, Singapore and Malaysia from June 17-20.
Born and raised in Tampin, a town in southern Malaysia, this bilingual author has won awards for her Chinese prose. In 1994, she left Kuala Lumpur to study film at Glasgow University. She also has completed a PhD in creative writing.
Little Hut of Leaping Fishes appeared on a long-list for the Man Asian Literary Prize. Beautifully written, set against the backdrop of an ever-changing China, it’s an historical novel, a compelling story of childhood, family and ambition in the 19th century when the West eagerly tried to seize slices of the East.
Foreign-language rights to Little Hut of Leaping Fishes have sold for France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Lithuania.
