Legendary Newfoundland singer-songwriter Ron Hynes will celebrate the release of his new Stealing Genius CD with a concert at Harmony House Theatre in Hunter River, P.E.I., Canada, on November 19 at 8 p.m.
Produced by Paul Mills at The Millstream in Toronto, the CD has 14 songs, many composed when Hynes went on a writing retreat at Woody Point in western Newfoundland. Inspired by some favorite authors and poets (including Michael Crummey, Stan Dragland, Randall Maggs, Donna Morrisey, Al Pittman and Des Walsh), Hynes crafted remarkable songs that echo life in Newfoundland and resonate everywhere.
Best known for his folk classic song “Sonny's Dream”, Hynes has done eight solo albums and many collaborative projects. He is a six-time East Coast Music Award winner. The release of Stealing Genius follows the world premiere of The Man of a Thousand Songs, a feature-length documentary with Hynes as its subject and star. The film premiered to capacity crowds at the Toronto International Film Festival.
