A show titled Honestly, The Songs and Stories of Nancy White and Erskine Smith, runs until September 18 at the Victoria Playhouse on Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Honestly, what's with the show title? Singer-songwriter Nancy White explains: “A lot of Erskine's wild tales elicit an ‘honestly!’ from his listeners. As for me, the ‘honestly’ factor often led me to the things I wrote about, especially when doing topical songs for CBC Sunday Morning. (‘Now, honestly, how gullible do they think we are?’).... I think I sing honestly, and certainly Erskine tells his stories honestly.”
Nancy is a witty observer of twitches and turns in popular culture. Her folk/cabaret concerts mix comedy and music. Born on P.E.I. and hardened in Toronto, she rose to national prominence on CBC Radio. She plays guitar and banjo. In addition, she co-wrote the musical Anne and Gilbert.
With Erskine Smith, cultural anthropology meets standup comedy. His humorous tales have been heard nationally on radio and in community halls and theatres across the Maritimes. He has been a popular storyteller at the Festival of Small Halls.
