| I just finished reading the Jeffrey Archer piece (Real Storytellers a Rare Breed, Archer Reckons) and agree with the importance of routine.
Writing is mostly hard work, like any job. Creativity is important, but can’t be moved forward without hard work. A teacher once told me: “Hard writing, easy reading.” The harder an author works on his prose, the easier it is for readers.
As a former literature teacher, I always was leery of students who passed in essays saying, “It was easy.” The hard work comes in the many drafts as fine-tuning happens.
I, too, believe there are few genius writers, but many, many craftspeople who may write “above their weight”, over-achievers, if you will. They, too, deserve credit.
