Football Makes Much Better National Sport?

Thanks for the recent feature story, Pinoy Flair Ignites Hoops Site.

Recently, I've been in Cebu and Negros in the Philippines. In Dumaguete, the Negros university town, the town plaza has the ubiquitous basketball court always in use. But I was glad to see there now also is a football pitch where young players in uniforms go through their paces under a coach.

As a British writer has said, it's insane for Filipinos, being generally short, to have made basketball their national sport. That's why the professional teams in Manila import tall Americans to join their lineups.

Soccer makes much more sense. Slowly, it's making inroads around the islands.
