The Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) committee has announced that its 2007 ceremony takes place on December 1 at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec. The bilingual event will be hosted by Shelagh Rogers of CBC Radio One’s Sounds Like Canada and by Benoit Bourque, a renowned figure on Quebec’s traditional music scene.
The CFMAs recognize Canada’s outstanding folk-music writers, producers and performers who expand the genre in exciting ways. The awards also celebrate Canada’s diverse musical heritage, from aboriginal, Celtic, Acadian and traditional Quebecois styles to singer-songwriter music, blues, bluegrass and old-time country and to the myriad of global traditions brought by waves of immigration.
For the 2007 CFMAs, the submission deadline is July 15. Submission forms appear online: www.canadianfolkmusicawards.ca.
