Ridiculing Hong Kong's “high degree of autonomy” in your book High Degree of Atrocity makes a good attraction. What a poignant satire! I finished reading it within three days.
I very much appreciated the dedication: “To the people of Hong Kong and much of Asia, too long denied the basic freedom of meaningful democracy.”
In the real world, the Chinese Communist Party has learned more sophisticated tactics of deceit as time passes. History repeats, but in different manifestations. Although the Tiananmen Massacre remains unforgettable and traumatic, the Doomsday carnage probably wouldn't happen in Hong Kong. The Party would only lure people into stronger “trust” in its “gradual reform” and delude the world with its camouflage of fake openness and apparent economic prosperity.
