| I notice that New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) will host an international Chinese dance competition in New York from May 20-27 and broadcast the competition globally via satellite. The contest (more details: dance.ntdtv.com/) should attract teachers or performers aged 14 to 40 from dance academies or troupes.
The intention is to promote more creative development of classical Chinese dance and to deepen Western society’s understanding of Chinese culture. Audiences may come to better understand Chinese dance from the perspectives of history and art. With its rich range of movements stressing grace and form, classical Chinese dance gives expression to many human emotions.
In fact, Chinese dance began with ancient folk dances and royal-court dances. As recently as about 50 years ago, the dance artists borrowed many elements from Chinese opera, kung fu and ballet.
