On the strength of Gaelic recordings, Teresa Doyle, a jazz-and-Celtic singer from Prince Edward Island, Canada, has received an unusual honor. She's the only musician from outside Ireland on a new album, Gaisce for Arusha, released by Amergin Music in Ireland.
Producer Tomas O'Sullivan chose Doyle’s song, “Suantrai”, originally from her album Orrachan. She joins some of Ireland's finest musicians, including singer Una Flynn, in the collection of 20 tracks.
As O'Sullivan explains, “Teresa performed here (Kerry, Ireland) on her last Irish tour, and I had the pleasure of playing and improvising with her. Teresa's Gaelic material was well received, leading me to ask her to contribute to this recording.”
Doyle says, “I'm thrilled to be on the record. I was a bit tentative about singing Gaelic in Ireland, but was warmly received and encouraged. Being on this CD amounts to icing on the cake. I can't wait to go back.”
