Book Probes Hidden Communist Party Role

Christine Loh’s new book, Underground Front: The Chinese Communist Party in Hong Kong, examines the Chinese Communist Party’s role in Hong Kong since 1921. Entirely up to date, this pioneering study even has survey results about Hong Kong’s attitude to the CCP. Many appendices about targets of the Party’s united-front activities make the book valuable to people interested in history or politics.

On March 11, Loh will address the Reading Club in the University of Hong Kong’s main library. A lawyer and former Hong Kong legislator, she’s the CEO of Civic Exchange, a public-policy think-tank. In 1995, she became one of the few people to raise a debate about how the CCP would operate after 1997, for which opponents pilloried her.
