Birds Swoop into Hong Kong Gallery

The Birds is a 1963 suspense-horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock based on a 1952 novella by Daphne du Maurier. It has a wealthy San Francisco playgirl pursuing a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that takes a bizarre turn when birds suddenly begin to attack people.

The film debuted at a prestigious invitational showing attended by Hitchcock at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival. In March 1963, the Museum of Modern Art in New York had an invitation-only screening during a retrospective of Hitchcock's films.

This is one of Hitchcock's best-known movies. With tension, silence, uncertainty and mystery, it epitomizes suspense, not to mention coming from a top-notch screenplay and having great acting. The main plot is well-known, but Hitchcock added his magic and spiced the project with complex relationships between characters.

At 8 p.m. on November 4, we will screen this prime example of why Hitchcock is considered “the master of suspense”.
