Sorry to send you this sad news, but Willow, my sponsored bear at the Animals Asia Foundation’s bear sanctuary in China, has been euthanized.
He had surgery a week earlier to remove a liver tumor, but the vets later discovered bile leaking into his blood which would have meant a slow, painful death, so they put him to sleep.
People around the world had followed Willow’s progress in his final days.
In Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where the bear sanctuary is, Animals Asia hosted a Chinese New Year party for local officials. These guys claim that bear farming is humane. Who knows? Maybe they’ll listen one of these days.
