Bringing art, people and nature together in harmony, the K11 Art Mall celebrates the Chinese New Year by presenting The Art of Bamboo until February 20. This involves a 30-piece bamboo-carvings exhibition by artist Hung Kin-wah.
To wish everyone luck and bliss, K11 also has created a garden reminiscent of a meeting place in the ancient tale Herd Boy and Weaving Girl with 188 sparkling gold-foiled bamboo and 10 pairs of magpies. Shoppers can write their New Year wishes on wooden make-a-wish plaques and hang them in the garden.
A famous bamboo carver from China's Anhui Province, Hung has been invited to Hong Kong for the first time. Chinese academics have a particular liking for bamboo, deeming it “a gentleman” with perfect virtues in the plant world. It's favored at the Chinese New Year for its pronunciation rhymes with the word for “blessing” and “wishes”.
