Asian Screen Stars Test Time-Travel
After screening American, French, Japanese and local movies, we’re having a strong showing from South Korea. Starting at 8:30 p.m. on December 10, we’ll screen Il Mare. This intriguing story is about time travel without a time-machine or hi-tech science, but only strong sentiments. Like many Korean movies, it’s slow paced so you must taste, not drink, it.

This leading contemporary Korean film was remade by Warner Brothers as The Lake House (2006), starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. But that’s nothing versus the original.

Made in 2000, Il Mare stars Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Jung-Jae, both now superstars in Korea and beyond. The title, meaning “the sea” in Italian, is the name of a seaside house where the story unfolds. The protagonists live there two years apart, but can communicate by a mysterious post box.

As before, we’ll charge only HK$20 a person for equipment costs.
