Hong Kong Stop Motion, a contemporary art exhibition by Polish artist XYZ, continues until October 16 at the Culture Club Gallery in Hong Kong's Central District. There's an opening reception at 7 p.m. on September 30.
XYZ, also an architect, has lived in Hong Kong for three years. His work, an amalgamation of different forms, crosses the boundaries of abstract painting, photography and performance to depict urban lifestyles.
In this exhibition, he presents photos from the streets of Hong Kong aimed at a society used to fashion photography and modern ads. Applying paint on top recreates metaphors of the city based on daily reality.
Born in Poland in 1980, the artist grew up in Tunisia surrounded by art and geometry. His father taught mathematics. Returning to Poland, he learned painting, sculpture and traditional graphics. When studying architecture, he focused on urban social aspects. In 2005, he moved to Berlin, met urban artists and began to exhibit as XYZ.
