Animal-Welfare Suggestions Raised

On October 11, the University of Hong Kong's faculty of law associate professor Amanda Whitfort and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) deputy director (welfare) Fiona Woodhouse will present the findings of a two-year review, jointly conducted by HKU and the SPCA, of animal-welfare legislation in Hong Kong.

Comparisons will be made to the laws enforced in Europe, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. They will present and discuss extensive recommendations for reforms to the local laws controlling the pet trade, farming, transport and slaughter of food animals, management of feral animals and the use of animals in scientific research.

This event is scheduled for 7:30 to 9 p.m. in T4, Meng Wah Complex, University of Hong Kong. The discussion will be in English.
