Three-time Juno Award winner David Francey plays at The Guild in Charlottetown, Canada, on November 20. Tickets cost Cdn $22.50.
A carpenter turned singer-songwriter, Francey ranks among the finest. In 1999, he released his first CD, Torn Screen Door. Seven more CDs followed. The latest, Seaway, with Mike Ford, captures their experiences in a 2005 voyage on the M.V. Algoville, a 750-foot bulk-carrier. They spent two weeks sailing from Montreal to Thunder Bay and back along the Saint Lawrence Seaway and in the Great Lakes.
Invariably, Francey’s songs tell honest stories about real people and places. Poetic perception and hitting the heart of matters are his trademarks.
In 2008, Francey received a SOCAN Folk Music Award. Past recipients have included Ron Hynes, Oscar Peterson, and Tom Cochrane. American balladeer and multi-instrumentalist Craig Wert tours with Francey.
