Tsunami of Corruption Crashes Ashore?
February 28, 2008

News Reports – The ousted Thai prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, has left Hong Kong and flown home after 17 months of exile, saying he trusts Thailand’s justice system. Once seated in first class on a Thai Airways flight, Thaksin read Thai newspapers that reported tight security for his arrival. In 2006, a military coup overthrew him amid allegations of corruption, but a government sympathetic to him recently took office.

Commentary From the Streets of Thailand – This is a perfect day for wearing my anti-Toxin T-shirt.

We can’t escape the feeling that, as a nation, we need to “put out the garbage” a second time. We already threw it by the curb for pickup once, but now it’s turned around and walked back in the door.

Another image that comes to mind has a black tsunami wave of corruption and sleaze rushing towards the Thai coastline. Our country will be inundated.

Time and again, Thailand proves its remarkable vulnerability to corruption. Knowing the weaknesses of his fellow citizens, Thaksin cunningly uses them to his advantage.

Already, Thailand has a joke government in power. Now the biggest joker in the deck emerges from the shadows.

This may be a time to cancel all newspaper subscriptions, unplug the Internet, TV and radio. Ostriches have the right idea, with their heads deep in the sand. Ignorance is bliss.

Duh! How about those Beijing Olympics?
