'Rock For the Kids' Fills Christmas Wishes
December 8, 2006

Seven bands from Canada’s smallest province performed in a “Rock For The Kids” fundraising show at The Guild in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on December 2. Proceeds went to the Toys For Tots charity.

“As a musician, it’s really special to give something back to the community at this time of year, especially for the kids,” said Pat Deighan, an organizer who hopes to make the event an annual one.

PEI Music Award winners Fugato starred, as did the nominees Out From Under, plus Pat Deighan and the Orb Weavers, Stride, Royal Rifles, AnnaPilla, and Boxer The Horse.

“All kids deserve a great Christmas, and we know that may not happen for some, said Lloyd Doyle of Sandbar Music, another organizer. “We want to do our part. If we can help to make Christmas wishes come true for even a few children or families, then it’s all good.”

Fugato plans to release a followup album soon to its successful Grass Radio (2005). Out From Under enjoys popularity on college radio for its Unindustrious album. Pat Deighan and The Orb Weavers, AnnaPilla and Boxer The Horse all should release new CDs soon. Recently, Stride’s first album appeared.

The music scene on PEI stays busy, yet the performers still find time to support worthy causes and to spread seasonal blessings. People in the province may wish to respond by purchasing local CDs as Christmas gifts. That too would create holiday joy.
