| Since launching Cairns Media Magazine two years ago, we’ve written regularly about two subjects that hold wonderful magic: books and music. Enjoying either (or better both) offers immense pleasures.
Recently, we read Robin S. Sharma’s book, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari (2006, HarperTorch, 198 pages). The author often makes inspirational speeches at conferences and seminars in North America.
This self-help book dolled up as fiction falls far short of perfection. But Sharma boldly testifies to the beneficial magic of printed words and recorded music. As fellow evangelists on the theme, we gladly quote him.
“Read regularly. Reading for 30 minutes a day will do wonders for you…. You will quickly start to see the vast reserves of knowledge available for your use. Every answer to every problem you have ever faced is in print…. All the mistakes you will ever make in your life have already been made by those that have walked before you…. More importantly, the answers and solutions are all recorded on the pages of books.”
About music, Sharma says:
“The sages loved their music. It gave them the same spiritual boost as the sun did. Music made them laugh, it made them dance and it made them sing. It will do the same for you. Never forget the power of music. Spend a little time with it every day, even if it is listening to a soft piece on a cassette while you drive to work. When you feel down or weary, play some music.”
What more could anyone add? Amen!
